You’ve Taken Care of Everyone Else, Now It’s Your Turn

“Mama, I just want you to know, lovin’ you is like food to my soul.” Boys II Men

Honestly, Mother’s Day is bitter sweet for me. I didn’t have the opportunity to become a mom. I won’t be able to pass down good health, greater knowledge and transparency about aging. It wasn’t in the cards for me but I took that grief and chose to pivot my career so I can pass down that freedom to you and your daughters. God works all things out for your good and I have definitely made the most of being “child-free” even if that wasn’t my original plan.

Guess what else was not in my plans? Peri menopause and weight gain!

The “mother of change” cannot be ignored. Her name is menopause and she demands to be tended to just like your children. The hot flashes, vaginal dryness, headaches, brain fog or itching all over is not something you can reschedule. It is inconvenient and uncomfortable.

For many women, especially mothers, and me as a healthcare professional, caring for others comes naturally. You show up for your children, your family, your career, and your responsibilities without hesitation. Somewhere along the way you stop caring for yourself unless you absolutely must.

You are not weak. You are not failing. Your s body simply requires support.
